On the obverse is the Temple of Heaven, an ancient architectural masterpiece where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties (about seven hundreds years ago) came to perform worship to Heaven and pray for good harvests. The reverse features a panda surrounded by bamboo sticks. This design is the same as the design for the 2001 issues due to a decision to freeze the design. Fortunately for bullion coin collectors worldwide, this policy was reversed for the 2003 and subsequent issues.
The 2002 China Panda 1oz Gold Coin was struck by the China Mint in the year 2002 and belongs to the Panda series of gold bullion coins. Each 24 carat fine gold coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of gold and is legal tender with a face value of 500 yuan.
While the one ounce coins are generally the most popular amongst bullion investors, the Chinese 2002 Panda Gold coin also comes in fractional ounce sizes of half, quarter, one-tenth and one-twentieth oz.
