1984 South Africa Krugerrand 1-oz Gold Coin
|Gold Content||1 oz.|
|Year of Issue||1984|
Krugerrand prices are very close to the gold market price as they are offered at premiums of no more than one percent above the gold spot price. This makes krugerrand gold bullion coins attractive to gold investors who buy krugerrands not for numismatic purposes but for speculation and/or investment. Later when selling krugerrands, the gold investor do not have to worry about a possible loss in numismatic value in the krugerrand as there isn't any.
The obverse of the krugerand gold coin depicts the face of Paul Kruger (hence the name Kruger-rand), a prominent figure who led the Boer resistance against the British. Paul Kruger eventually became the fifth, and last president of the old South African Republic, and held that office for four terms. Designed by Coert Steynberg, the reverse shows a springbok antelope, a national symbol of South Africa. This was the same design used on the reverse of the earlier 5 shilling South African coinage for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.
The 1984 South Africa Krugerrand 1oz Gold Coin was struck by the South African Mint in the year 1984 and belongs to the Krugerrand series of gold bullion coins. Each 22 carat fine gold coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of gold.
While the one ounce coins are generally the most popular amongst bullion investors, the South African 1984 Krugerrand Gold coin also comes in fractional ounce sizes of half, quarter and one-tenth oz.
