The reverse of the coin is designed by Philip Nathan and depicts Britannia standing resplendent on a windswept shore, hair and robes flowing in the wind, holding Neptune's Trident in one hand, a Union Jack shield and a sprig of olive in the other. The design is reminiscent of the standing Britannia design used on the florins of Edward VII (1841 - 1910). The obverse side of the coin honors the British Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The 2000 UK Britannia 1oz Gold Coin was struck by the British Royal Mint in the year 2000 and belongs to the Britannia series of gold bullion coins. Each 22 carat fine gold coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of gold and is legal tender with a face value of £100.
While the one ounce coins are generally the most popular amongst bullion investors, the British 2000 Britannia Gold coin also comes in fractional ounce sizes of half, quarter and one-tenth oz.
