Taking into account President Roosevel4s suggestion, Saint-Gaudens added a fictional Native American war bonnet to Liberty, hence the name “Indian Head Eagle” is often applied to this series of coins. The reverse design featured a proud eagle astride a bundle of arrows.
The Indian Head Eagle was minted every year from 1907 until 1916. Production from 1916 onwards was very sporadic and with President Franklin Roosevelt's Gold Order of 1933, production of the Indian Head Eagles ended along with all other US gold coins.
The 1909 US Indian Head Eagle Gold Coin was struck by the US Mint in the year 1909 and belongs to the Indian Head Eagle series of gold bullion coins. Each .900 fine gold coin contains 0.4837 troy ounce (15.0462 grams) of gold and is legal tender with a face value of $10.
